Year of Dogs is a four piece indie-funk-pop band from Cape Town and turned heads with the release of their debut single ‘Sweet Red’ in February 2021. Followed by the release of two additional tracks – ‘Jade’ and ‘You Got Me’ – the group has won over the hearts of critics and casual listeners alike with popular music blog, Texx & the City, dubbing them their “latest obsession” in the South African music scene.
The band blends together senses of tongue-in-check with a funky seriousness that creates a sound that’s both deep and gentle. Much of the group’s influence stems from genre-defying artists like Tame Impala, Mac De Marco, Parcels, MGMT and Jungle, as well as French disco groups such as FKJ, L’imperatrice, Polo and Pan, and Paradis to name a few. Year of Dogs is Nic van Graan (vocals), Themba Bosch (guitar), Alex Birns (drums) and Dillon Birns (bass).
