SAMA nominated singer-songwriter Laurie Levine is best known for her blend of Americana and folk music. The release of her last solo record, ‘Canyons’, bought with it a whole new sound and outlook. She moved away from the acoustic terrain of country and folk into a lush world of electric guitars, beats, synths and spacious reverbs. Dark at times, introspective and pierced with a sublime beauty, the songs reverberate and shimmer with otherworldly elegance and intelligence. Through the years, she has explored different soundscapes and moods, but through it all, what has remained constant is the rich lyricism that is bought home by the intimacy and emotionality of her vocal delivery.
Since moving to Cape Town, Laurie has started collaborating with singer-songwriter Jak Tomas.
It is a rare and special thing to witness two artists with distinct styles and voices on the same stage, imbuing songs with new life. Jak Tomas will be joining Laurie for her set, enriching and expanding her songs, both old and new with atmospheric textures. The result is a beautiful balance of delicacy and power.
