Hezron Chetty presents the Knight of Cups, a show presented around his latest album and work. The Knight of Cups album was recorded during a period of separation, death and rebirth and is an ode to how quickly life can change. The album is Chetty’s 6th album and continues along the path of non genre defining structure with familiar themes, in rock, neoclassical, psychedelic, jazz and world. The songs were written and recorded between Germany and Italy where he now resides.
This is not an album launch but a live show and preview of the soon to be released album which was recorded in Berlin, Germany with the assistance of Andrè Leo (Medicine Boy, Wombed) this will be the first time these songs are played to a live audience during Chetty’s 3 month stay in South Africa before returning to Europe.
Hezron trained with the classical method before studying a Diploma in Jazz at Durban University of Technology which was the incubation ground for Grammy award winning artists like Black Coffee, Zakes Bantwini and virtuosos like Nduduzo Makhatini and Prince Bulo . Questioning why the violin should only fall into a specific genre of classical or jazz, Hezron began to work with other alternative acts to increase his ability and skills to accompany various artists in music genres like Folk, Electronic, Rock, Pop, Psychedelic and Blues music.
It was in the thriving music scene of London where he spent five years performing with local bands and touring Great Britain and Spain that he became a recording artist. Hezron began to push the musical boundaries that are generally imposed on the violin and he learnt many new techniques. He began practicing and performing relentlessly, jamming with any bands that were looking for a violinist to join them. In 2015, Hezron released his debut solo album The Fallacy of Composition and went onto release Dream Sound (2018) and Heads Or Tails (2020) Texture (2021) Heads or Tails B-Sides (2022)
Hezron performs globally and has supported and worked with in various capacities acclaimed acts like, Incubus, Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy), Jocelyn Brown (Incognito), Finley Quaye, Paco Sery (Jaco Pastorius, Joe Zawinul), Vieux Farka Touré (Son of Ali Farka Touré), Medicine Boy, Arno Carstens, Albert Frost, LadySmith Black Mambazo, Lira, Wombed, David Eugene Edwards, Joshua Murphy, Patrick Walker, Brynn, Van T.
