Jeremy Loops has been in lockdown longer than most. At the start of this year, fresh from a tour that took in Brixton Academy and his biggest ever venues throughout Europe, he hid himself away in his Cape Town studio to complete his eagerly-awaited third album. Just two days after the final song was written, South Africa shut down. “I haven’t been at home this long in a decade,”says Jeremy from his beachside studio, where producers including Carey Willetts(Dermot Kennedy, Freya Ridings) and Edd Holloway(Lewis Capaldi, Tom Walker) came to collaborate on the upcoming album. As well as co-producing some of the new songs remotely with Simone Felice(The Lumineers, Bat For Lashes) and Cam Blackwood(George Ezra, Bastille), readying the release of stunning new single ‘Mortal Man’ and streaming acoustic gigs for his global army of fans, the long-time activist founded The Big Food Drive, a crowd-funded campaign to send food to some of the poorest communities in South Africa. Within two hours of it launching in late April, it had surpassed its target of R100,000. Within two weeks, it had raised more than 7 times that amount and was sending out the first of 70 trucks full of food. “SA’s strict lockdown is causing a humanitarian crisis,” says Jeremy. “There is a desperate need for produce in our poor communities, on a scale that the first world wouldn’t understand. We have huge populations now close to starving, all living in close quarters. As soon as lockdown was announced, we knew we had to help our own. To see the target smashed again and again has been beyond my wildest expectations.” A decade ago, just before his career exploded here at home, Jeremy co-founded Greenpop, an on-going initiative that to date has planted 150,000 trees in 400 locations including schools and orphanages in previously green-free communities. As his music took off around the world, trees sold at his merch stands as keyrings have offset his carbon emissions from touring. Although he has become known for crafting high-energy, feel-good tunes, social responsibility has always been part of Jeremy’s package, no more so than on his new songs. “Every song speaks to something I really care about. On my debut, I was happy-go-lucky with the **ARRIVE FROM 4PM. MUSIC STARTS AT 5 – 6.30PM

The iconic British Beatles, revolutionized music forever, while the popular American folk-rock group, Simon & Garfunkel, were distinguished by their intuitive harmonies and Paul Simon’s songwriting talent.  Duck Chowles and Andy Murray’s voices blend in perfect harmony to some of the greatest songs ever written in popular music. Andy Murray features on lead vocals and lead acoustic guitar and Duck Chowles on lead vocals and acoustic guitar. They will be joined on stage by drummer, Alan Lloyd, and bassist, Karl Hering … both accomplished and experienced musicians, who performed in various Barnyard productions.

Duck Chowles and Andy Murray have been at the forefront of the South African entertainment industry for more than 3 decades.  They started working together in 1993 at The National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, in a Tribute to The Rolling Stones, called “Sticky Fingers”. They continued performing together in countless hit shows such as “Sixty Something”, “Roll over Beethoven”, “Glory Days”, “Station 70” and many more.

Duck and Andy’s perfect harmony blend for The Beatles’ sound is one of their trademarks, and they toured with the hit show, “The Fab 4”- A Tribute to The Beatles throughout South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia and enjoyed sold-out performances in 2013 at the Madinat Theatre, situated in the exclusive Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai.

They reunite in a special tribute to the music of Simon and Garfunkel and The Beatles in an intimate acoustic show, celebrating two of the greatest, most influential and successful musical groups of all time.

The Beatles’ catalogue is represented from their early days with hits such as She Loves You, A Hard Day’s Night and Eight Days a Week to the early Paul Simon compositions such as Homeward Bound, The Boxer and Mrs Robinson. Highlights in the show include the beautiful, iconic The Sounds of Silence, Bridge over Troubled Waters, Yesterday and Here Comes the Sun. The first half ends on a rocking note with The Beatles’ hit, Come Together.

The party gets underway in the second half with sing-alongs such as Hey Jude, Cecelia, Yellow Submarine and Ob La Di, Ob La Da, to mention but a few.

“Simon & Garfunkel Meet The Beatles” show was sold out for one night, virtually sold out for the 2nd and 3rd performance and it received rave reviews at The Drama Factory in October and by popular demand, Duck and Andy will be back at this venue on 11 & 12 December.

Join Duck Chowles and Andy Murray at Café Roux, Noordhoek, in a special performance and nostalgic blast from the past, with uplifting, everlasting music that strikes a chord and resonates with old and young alike!

Congo Cowboys is a band formed by Freshlyground members Simon Attwell (banjo), Julio Sigauque (bass) and Congolese lead singer Chris Bakalanga (guitar), together with South African drummer Unity Mzi. The band is excited to present music that draws on the foot stomping qualities of Bluegrass & Country, reimagined through Kwassa Kwassa African rhythms and Soukous guitar. The Congo meets the Deep South in a gritty exploration of Americana and ol’ timey ditties. Banjo and bluesy bass lines from boys in boots. It’s fire and hell, whisky and ribs, murder in the pines… BOYA TOSEPELA!

Masi Fire Fundraiser – A Bruce Springsteen Tribute Show @ cafe Roux, Noordhoek
Dec 20 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Masi fundraiser this Sunday

In light of the tragic fire that occurred in Masiphumulele yesterday, we will be hosting a fund raising gig outside at Cafe Roux on Sunday afternoon the 20th December at 5pm. Three members of our staff, and thousands more, have lost everything in the fire. We will be raising as much funds as we can in order to help them start their lives again.

Dan Green, from Me and Mr Green, will be performing his Bruce Springsteen Tribute show  and we are very fortunate to have his brother Jon in town to perform alongside him. Jon is an extremely talented musician and song writer who has written for the likes of James Bay, Sam Smith, Linkin Park, Kylie Minogue, Paloma Faith and Lady Antebellum amongst many others. The brother’s chemistry is not to be missed and as anyone who has seen Dan’s Springsteen show will testify, it’s a special experience.

There will be no tickets for sale so table bookings are essential – call 021 789 2538 to book a table (they’re well spaced out). You’re also welcome to come down and spread out on the grass in the distance and use our bar. We will be taking donations on the day and this event will be strictly Covid compliant.

Please come and show your support, we really need it!

Anna Wolf @ cafe roux, Noordhoek
Dec 21 @ 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm

BOOK NOW

Anna Wolf is an artist not easily forgotten.

A performer, with a performance, that will stay with you long after she steps off the stage.

Anna Wolf creates alternative pop for the music snob, forcefully performed to stamp her into audiences’ memory.  She is a seductive, dark and vulnerable artist that will hypnotise you on a journey of self-discovery, leaving you with a feeling of being heard.  Although she has had many names, released numerous albums and performed in front of thousands of fans across the world, she has only recently skinned her past by facing it with her debut single, “Believer”, as Anna Wolf.

Born in Pretoria, South Africa, in turbulent home circumstances, she signed her first record deal at a very young age.  Releasing her 2013 debut album, The Dark Horse, under the moniker, Tailor, the album was nominated twice at the SAMA’s (South African Music Awards).  She received another SAMA nomination in 2015 for her second album, Light, as well as one in 2016 for her third album, Trust Pt. 1.

In 2016, Wolf, still Tailor at the time, recorded her third album, Trust Pt. 1, with producer Zak Loy (member of the multi-platinum American band LIVE) in Austin, Texas at the infamous Orb Recording Studio.  She collaborated on this album with various musicians ranging from bassist, Ainar Peterson (Kelly Clarkson) to drummer, Antoun Ramy (Seal, Black Eyed Peas) amongst others.  She was asked to collaborate live and in studio with various world renown performers, producers and industry leaders such as LIVE frontman, Ed Kowalczyk, Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, R.E.M., Big Star) and American/Grammy nominated music producer Tim Palmer (David Bowie, Pearl Jam, U2) to name a few.

In 2017, she was asked to open for Johnny Clegg on his final tour, playing to sold-out audiences in South Africa and London’s iconic Apollo Theatre in Hammersmith. In 2018, she went out on her own, playing a sold-out South Africa tour with demand increasing in the UK and Europe, she was then commissioned to perform in the Netherlands.

Around this time in 2018, she decided to follow her heart to London, officially becoming Anna Wolf, where her talent as a songwriter and performer was recognised by renowned producer and remixer, Pete Boxsta Martin (Sugababes, Jessie J, DJ Marshmello).  Boxsta Martin offered her a production deal under his company Three Bears Entertainment the day after she sent him a cellphone video of a song she wrote and performed in an acoustically unique bathtub.

“Believer” was born in the studio that same week with some of the noises Wolf made in the bathtub making it into Boxsta Martin’s explosive final mix.  Boxsta Martin was ignited to create an EP with Wolf that started with the release of “Believer” in 2018.  Second single, “Silence”, was released in 2019 with much hype and worldwide coverage.

Wolf’s demand hasn’t let up… she’s recently collaborated with Stereophonics’ drummer, Jamie Morrison.  Her tracks “Shaped Like A Gun” and “Wolf” from her debut album, Dark Horse, featured on FOX Network’s hit show, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ for two seasons.  She was asked to join the American rock indie darlings, The Posies, on their 30th Anniversary tour across the UK in 2018 and has performed solo shows at various iconic London venues, showcasing at SXSW and playing South Africa’s OppiKoppi and The Real Concert Series in the UK and South Africa and more!

In 2019, Unsigned Only (www.unsignedonly.com) announced Anna Wolf as the Grand Prize Winner for her track, “Believer” in Nashville Tennessee.  For the first time in Unsigned Only’s history, the grand prize was awarded to a South African artist.  The judging panel is an illustrious collection of global, award-winning, multi-platinum selling musicians and industry executives, this year including the likes of Robert Smith (The Cure) and Aimee Mann.  They collectively described Anna Wolf as “truly a compelling and rare artist…a performer with passion and style, a singer with haunting beautiful vocals, and a songwriter with depth and vulnerability… one of the most magnetic and inspiring artists we have ever come across”.

Wolf ended a superb 2019 with another sold out tour of her native South Africa. 2021 doesn’t see Wolf showing signs of slowing down; with more releases of which were recorded in South Africa before COVID19.

You’re invited to witness the phenomenal Anna Wolf.

“Anna Wolf is an extremely rare artist simple on the basis of her fearless experimentation.  She has all the conventional quirks expected of an Indie Electro singer.” NEON MUSIC

Anna Wolf can certainly lead a pack, making everyone in the building turn heads and say ‘who is that woman?’
I didn’t just watch a performance, I watched an art piece.”
NEON MUSIC

“Sonic brilliance.” BORN MUSIC ONLINE

“Anna is just so brilliantly out there.” PHACEMAG

“…a biting piece of alt-pop…clinical production aligned to Anna Wolf’s searing vocal.” CLASH (“Silence” exclusive)

“… a haunting pop ballad which tackles the subject of witnessing domestic violence as a child.” LOUD WOMEN (Video of the Day “Silence”)

Native Young is the brainchild of Yannick Meyer, a 27-year-old producer and songwriter, from Cape Town, South Africa.

When embarking on the Native Young project, the original goal seemed to be to forge musical ideas with people from different cultural backgrounds, pushing the boundaries of music and fusion in a true heart connection. What bloomed forth from this was something truly special.
The band has developed into 4 piece afro-folk indie collective founded in 2014 with members from various walks of life and cultures.

When asked to sum up their music genre Native Young describe their sound as “Kasi-pop”.
There are a handful of bands in in the world that seem to have the ability to reach so many listeners at a heart level, with extremely listenable melodies, funky hooks and soulful phrases, while at the same time leaving their audience feeling that they have heard something truly original and fresh.
There is absolutely no doubt that their debut album, “Kings”, will make big waves, not only locally but internationally too.

With intrinsic, emotive and heartfelt foot-tapping grooves guaranteed to spread a smile across the faces of their listeners, Native Young never disappoints.
