More about Jenny & The Jameses

Jenny & the Jameses are an Original Celtic folk band formed in March 2015 from South Africa. The band comprises Jennifer Eaves on vocals, guitar and piano, James Hall on violin and vocals, and multi-instrumentalist James Harvey on accordion, harp, bouzouki and vocals (and whatever else he feels like playing on the evening).

The band’s debut album, Untitled, was released in early September / October 2015 and since then the band has been on a whirlwind adventure in and around South Africa. After a year of touring their debut album and composing new material the band found themselves in studio again recording their second album, Fallen Tree, which was released in November 2017. The band then embarked on a tour to Holland and were invited to perform as opening act on the Holland leg of Johnny Clegg’s world tour.

2019 brought new and exciting adventures as the trio were invited to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where they were enthusiastically received with sold out theatre shows.

Some of the band’s highlights have been playing at the Cape Town Folk and Acoustic festival, the Knysna Celtic festival, the White Mountain Festival, the Taste of Darling Festival, the Darling Beer Festival, and of course, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The band is highly adaptable and enjoys venues both big and small, quirky or straight-laced, local or international.

Jenny & the Jameses are “one of the most fun and refreshingly honest bands on the circuit and most certainly not to be missed live.

Being ARD matthews
Singer, songwriter, and front man of South African multi-platinum selling band Just Jinjer, ARD matthews has been a household name and personality in his native country of South Africa, and across the world, since 1996 when the band gained prestige through having the biggest selling debut rock album in South Africa, and a reputation for world class live performances.
Fast forwarding through two decades of local & international touring, headlining festivals, album recordings and releases, ARD released his second solo album in 2019 called ‘Impossible Machines’, and promptly scooped up a South African Music Award (SAMA) for best Alternative Album, cementing his place in the SA music landscape in his solo capacity.
Since the beginning of South Africa’s Coronavirus lockdown, ARD has been committed to raising funds for those most in need with his live stream rooftop series called the ‘Play it Forward’ where, to date he has assisted in raising hundreds of thousands of Rands for people and animals who are not in a position to help themselves through the crisis.

In January of 2020, ARD bought a 66ft wooden pirate sailing vessel, built by the SA Navy, called the Howard Davis and promptly dubbed her ‘The Impossible Machine’ to be an eponymous, tongue-in-cheek extension of his most recent solo work. His intention is to sail her around the world, all the way collaborating and spreading a message of peace and good will. She will also carry a strong environmental awareness with her wherever she may go.

His latest release, ‘Free To Begin’ is a song who’s lyrics were entirely written by his online FB friends and fans in what was a truly unique collaborative effort that talks about this interesting

HOW IT ALL STARTED

“We met as two ambitious young students at the University of Stellenbosch. After a few cups of coffee we soon realised that we shared much more than our common interest in music. Today, after a brief stint in the corporate world, we are married and working as full-time musicians; pursuing our dream to inspire others through our craft.”

OUR STYLE

It’s hard to assign a genre to the music of the Bottomless Coffee Band. The style can be described as folk-pop. With foot stomping rhythms, hard hitting lyrics and hints of the dramatic, they are impressive to watch. “We like to refer to it as gourmet music… This term captures our vision as musicians: to produce music that is true to ourselves in the different stages of developing as musicians and creatives. To write lyrics and play songs that encourages good times, evokes emotion and sparks deeds of love, hope and change.” Lourens and Esté have become crowd favourites for their variety in song writing, melodic storytelling and electrifying performances, inspiring the nostalgia of the legends of yesteryear.

OUR INSTRUMENTS

We have a great love for instruments; we are constantly on the look-out for interesting sounds to include in our oeuvre. Currently we play 12 instruments between the two of us, gracing the stage with an impressive display of music-making gadgets, and allowing the sound of a full band. Our instruments include the Farmer foot drums, acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass, U-Bass, accordion, ukulele, harmonica, glockenspiel and various percussion instruments. We also sing, whilst playing the above.
