ROBIN AULD TRIO – Oct 2nd
Good to be getting Robin Auld back to café Roux & even better to be getting him back to SA for good. Having grown up in the Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay area, Robin is a musical legend around these parts. 20 albums later, he’s collaborated with SA’s best in the business. He has spent the last decade living in the UK & is heading home at the end of September. Let’s give him a proper welcome home!
THE BROTHER’S STREEP – Oct 9th
It’s hard to describe these guys in a few lines. They’re an acoustic comedy band where melody & music don’t take the back seat to the laughs. Their songs span a variety of topics, from flavoured milk products to Disney princesses as well as pirates, the economy, movie twists & other day-to-day observations – there’s certainly something for everyone with The Brothers Streep. They’ve played festivals all over the world: Rocking the Daisies, Synergy, Grahamstown, Edinburgh & the Annual Comic Choice Awards. Check out their appearance on the Graham Norton Show. These guys are classic…
aKING – Oct 16th
This melodic rock band have taken SA by storm since releasing their debut album in 2008. They’ve shared the stage with Oasis, Snow Patrol & Panic! with the Disco. We love these guys. A Lot. And are very excited to have them at café Roux. This video of their hit “Against all Odds” is brilliant!
PLUSH – Oct 23rd
We’re old-school Plush fans & have seen them play many times over the years. Hard to forget pummeling them with red roses at Kirstenbosch a few years back! Front man, Rory Elliot’s charismatic stage presence always ensures a performance that is heartfelt & uplifting.
GRAEME WATKINS PROJECT – Oct 25th
It’s not often that the South African music scene sees a band explode the way The Graeme Watkins Project did in 2011. In the space of one year they’ve produced five Top 10 hit singles from their debut album. 2012 saw them nominated for 2 x SAMA AWARDS (best rock and video), 1 MK Award (Best Newcomer) and a YOU Spectacular Award (Best Music act). That’s pretty good going in the space of two years. Have a listen to this great clip of them performing at Kirstenbosch.
ASHTRAY ELECTRIC – 30th Oct
Ashtray Electric unapologetically gallivanted onto the SA Music Scene three years ago. Winner of MK`s Best Newcomer Award 2009 & voted to have the potential to be SA`s next musical export, Ashtray Electric have been leaving their gutsy footprints at venues & festivals nationwide. Their music is laced with engaging melodies & packed with galloping riffs & attitude. Add to that their signature sleazy-slow motion sexiness & you`ll find this unique package of four musicians that have skillfully made their mark. Check them out, very funky band!
