Wren Hinds Band
Café Roux is proud to present an evening with indie troubadour singer-songwriter Wren Hinds alongside his incredible band – Jonno Sweetman (drums), Dylan Fine (electric guitar), Maurice Paliaga (bass). The band will be bringing Wren’s celebrated show to café Roux on January 8th.
“Wren and his band weave a tapestry of pure magic- carving out a soundscape that is dynamic, soulful, alluring…” – The Pearl Factory
A fresh chapter takes soft, sure shape for the Cape Town-based artist who in 2021 inked a full record deal with the iconic British label – Bella Union (Fleet Foxes, Beach House, Father John Misty, Midlake, Explosions in the Sky…)
Wren’s own life began on the south coast of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. His father was a musician, his mother a landscape painter. While his dad inspired Wren to record whenever and wherever he could, his mother’s artform coloured his approach to songwriting: “painting with sound” is Wren’s description – a methodology illustrated by his use of light, shade and space to communicate powerful impressions and feelings.
Following the Bella Union vinyl releases of his entire back catalogue, Wren’s latest and fourth studio album, ‘Don’t Die in the Bundu’ has been hailed by critics in the US,UK, Ireland and South Africa.
“A subtle form of intensity” – Mojo Magazine
“A gently beguiling set of sweet, soft hymns to hope in choppy times” – Record Collector
“Gentle and lush with gorgeously textured songs” – The Sun
“Hinds has mastered the rare art of creating albums that are simultaneously full-bodied and subtle.” – NARC Magazine
