Renowned guitarist, singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Mel Botes proudly presents “The Guitars That Shook The World: Clapton, Gilmour, Knopfler, Hendrix”. Botes, who first rose to fame with his four-part rock opera “David’s Confession” in the early ’90s, has made a name for himself through powerful tributes to legendary musicians.

Eric Clapton is celebrated as one of rock music’s most influential guitarists. Ranked second on Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”, Clapton is the only artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times – once as a solo artist, and separately as a member of both the Yardbirds and Cream. With over 100 million records sold, Clapton has earned his place as one of the best-selling musicians ever. Mel Botes pays homage to “Slowhand” in his highly-praised tribute show, “Me and Mr Clapton”.

Another icon, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, ranked 14th on Rolling Stone’s 2015 list of the greatest guitarists. Known for his role as lead guitarist and vocalist of one of the most legendary rock bands in history, Gilmour’s influence spans decades. Since debuting “Crazy Diamond – A Tribute to Pink Floyd” in 2008, Mel Botes has captivated audiences with his electrifying tribute, leading to sold-out performances and, in response to demand, the launch of a second Pink Floyd tribute, “The Dark Side of the Moon,” in 2013.

Mark Knopfler, lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter for Dire Straits from 1977 to 1995, is yet another artist honoured by Botes. Ranked 27th by Rolling Stone in their “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”, Knopfler is a virtuoso recognized for his unique fingerstyle technique. Mel Botes’ “Sultans of Swing – A Tribute to Dire Straits” and “Private Investigations – A Tribute to Dire Straits” celebrate Knopfler’s contributions and bring to life Dire Straits’ timeless anthology.

Few musicians have shaped music as profoundly as Jimi Hendrix. Known for pioneering an innovative guitar style that fused fuzz, feedback, and distortion, Hendrix is widely regarded as one of the most creative musicians of the 20th century. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame described him as “arguably the greatest instrumentalist in rock music”, and Rolling Stone ranked him the greatest guitarist of all time! Jimi Hendrix, who was called “an ace on the guitar” by McCartney who insisted that the Monterey Pop Festival would be incomplete without the Hendrix, was introduced at the festival by Brian Jones as “the most exciting performer he had ever heard”. The set ended with Hendrix destroying his guitar by setting it alight and tossing pieces of it out to the audience. Alex Vadukul of Rolling Stones wrote, “When Jimi Hendrix set his guitar on fire at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, he created one of rock’s most perfect moments!” Author and historian, Matthew C. Whitaker, wrote that “Hendrix’s burning of his guitar became an iconic image in rock history and brought him national attention”. The Los Angeles Times asserted, that upon, leaving the stage, Hendrix “graduated from rumour to legend”. Hendrix had said, “I decided to destroy my guitar at the end of a song as a sacrifice. You sacrifice things you love. I love my guitar!”
