Prepare for an evening of captivating music and storytelling as Johan Liebenberg, renowned for his acclaimed Neil Diamond tributes, presents “The Storytellers”. This evocative show pays homage to legendary singer-songwriters, those solitary figures who shaped the landscape of modern music.
Liebenberg will weave a rich tapestry of sound, performing beloved classics from artists like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Leonard Cohen, Cat Stevens, Kris Kristofferson, Don Williams, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, alongside his signature Neil Diamond repertoire. Expect to hear timeless hits such as “Sunday Morning Coming Down,” “Bird on a Wire,” “Wonderful Tonight,” “Father and Son”, “Forever Young”, “Europa” and “Sometimes We Cry”, among others.
“The Storytellers” delves into the stories behind these iconic musicians, exploring their individual journeys and the profound impact of their artistry. Liebenberg, a gifted vocalist and guitarist, will be joined by well-known and respected Cape Town musicians, Stanley Hill on bass and Dillon Myburgh on drums, creating a dynamic and immersive musical experience.
Hailing from Namibia, Johan Liebenberg has established himself as a prominent performer, showcasing his exceptional vocal talent and guitar skills in numerous productions. With his strong background in musical theatre and tribute performances, Johan’s past performances have been met with great public and widespread acclaim. His previous successes include starring roles in popular shows like “Neil Diamond & Friends,” where his uncanny vocal resemblance has earned him the reputation of being “The Neil Diamond of South Africa”.
A versatile and sought-after session musician, Stanley Hill’s passion for playing the bass guitar has led him to teach how to play the instrument. He performed with Rabbit Black and 12th Avenue, recorded 3 albums with the latter, secured a contract with Musketeer Records and toured with Seether on their Homecoming Tour. He has graced local and festival stages performing alongside renowned artists, and has performed at numerous national and international award ceremonies and productions. Stanley is also the writer and producer of “The Bruce Springsteen Experience” and is currently completing his degree in music, specializing in music production and African music.
Dillon Myburgh has dedicated nearly fourteen years to the art of drumming, establishing himself as a full-time musician, performing and instructing. His commitment to the craft is evident in his extensive study, transitioning from formal lessons to an independent, immersive exploration of drumming concepts and creative techniques. Myburgh’s ambition is to achieve the highest level of musicianship and drumming proficiency. He has built a diverse and dynamic career, performing with multiple acts highlighting his adaptability and expertise across different musical genres. Currently he lends his talents to Johan Liebenberg’s Neil Diamond tribute, Richard Pryor’s Gin Wizard, Frank Freeman’s VOLK, and Eldred Schilder.
