Where Olive Trees Weep offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people, exploring themes of loss, trauma, and the quest for justice. The film follows, among others, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass – and witnesses Dr. Gabor Maté offering trauma-healing work to a group of Palestinian women.

Ancient landscapes bear deep scars yet we catch a glimpse of resilience – deep roots that have carried the Palestinian people through decades of darkness and shattered lives.

The Deep South for Palestine group is a local community organisation dedicated to advocating for Palestinian rights and raising awareness about the ongoing struggles in Palestine. Based in the Southernmost part of Cape Town, they foster dialogue to promote education and support initiatives and, through events, discussions and collaborative efforts, seek to create a more equitable and compassionate understanding of the complexities facing the region – emphasising solidarity intersectionality, and human rights for all. Their mission is to build bridges across communities and inspire action that promotes peace and justice.
