Lucy Kruger is a songwriter from Cape Town, South Africa who now lives in Berlin. Her musical journey has always integrated contrasting elements, with a love for stripped storytelling as well as relentless noise.
In September 2019 Lucy releaser her second full length album through German based label, Unique Records. ‘Sleeping Tapes for Some Girls’ is a gently interrogative collection of slow-sinking-seagaze songs. Bedroom reflections on the in-between or the underneath of the everyday. Presented almost as they were conceived, Lucy’s guitar and voice float amongst dream-like-drones and distant percussion.
‘Though the album is called Sleeping Tapes for Some Girls, the music feels like lullabies for Nick Drake, as Lucy treads the same deep waters as the folk-pop singer from the late 60s and early 70s, utilizing her voice and acoustic guitar to delicate effect—where the volume is performed in a soft tactile caress of fingers on skin or fretboard.’ – Post-Punk.
‘Digging A Hole is a haunting piece of reduced tenderness, delivered by South African songwriter Lucy Kruger. It’s a mesmerizing show stopper, almost five minutes of a meditative dreamscape that invites you to sink deeper and deeper into its nocturnal notion with every second.’ – NBHap
Shivers compares the sound of the record to that of Hope Sandoval and Marissa Nadler.
